Meabh Mc Curtin

Meabh is somehow more than a person: She is an elixir. When listening to her, one is blown away by all the greens – the green of her eyes, the green of her homeland, Ireland, the green shadows of history, of fairies, of memories. Meabh successfully studied biochemistry but she realized that something was missing in this life of research to which she had planned to devote herself. She had always been fascinated by French culture and decided to move to France where she discovered the world of perfume. She trained with Daniel Andre, an independent perfumer, in Switzerland and was soon hired by IFF as a perfumer's assistant. Eight years later she is a junior perfumer. Meabh believes perfume is a condensed way to express ideas and emotions, a kind of molecular poetry: “I think with poetry, you use words to create something somebody can connect to, something that speaks about our universality, something that is a bit beyond logical understanding, something that touches you. I feel that perfume is like that too. It’s a way to transmit a message. You start off with a single ingredient and then you compose them, juxtapose them in a way that communicates a message to someone, moves them, makes them feel happy or seductive or nostalgic.”

“I can live in a space inside my mind which is less about facts and more about connecting with people, connecting with ideas, exploring through feelings, the whole synesthesia of smells.”
